Four Ghost Stories

GERSTLE, Sara.

Four Ghost Stories.

FIRST EDITION, one of 150 copies, this copy hand-numbered 106. San Francisco: Adrian Wilson, Printer at the Sign of the Interplayers, 1951.

29 pp. Purple wrappers with a white ghost-pattern design. Light fading to the wrappers, else fine. Paperback.

A San Francisco fine-press production by Adrian Wilson (1923–1988), one of the most admired American book designers of the twentieth century — author of the standard reference The Design of Books (1967) and, in 1983, a recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship. This is early work, printed under his "At the Sign of the Interplayers" imprint, years before he established his permanent press at One Tuscany Alley in 1959. An attractive connoisseur's piece for a collection of California fine printing. The companion volume, Gerstle's Three Houses (1952) — same author, same printer, same 150-copy limitation — is also available.
