8vo. [12], 99, [1] pp. Title page printed in red and black. Original tan paper-covered boards with decorative gilt stamping, in the original publisher's dust jacket — exceptionally scarce thus. Some pages unopened (fore-edge folds intact through much of the text). Minor wear to extremities, occasional foxing; else copy is near fine.

Clark Ashton Smith's first book, gathers fifty-five early poems — cosmic, fantastical, technically polished, drawing on the vein of imagined-empire and astronomical imagery that Sterling himself worked. The first edition of two thousand copies was reduced by fire, roughly a thousand sets of unbound sheets destroyed; copies in the original publisher's dust jacket are exceptionally scarce, and an unopened copy in jacket is among the strongest survivals available.
