GERSTLE, Sara.

Three Houses.

FIRST EDITION, one of 150 copies, this copy hand-numbered 140. San Francisco: Adrian Wilson, Printer at the Sign of the Interplayers, 1952.

28 pp. Issued in teal wrappers with a white line-drawn Victorian house. Slight fading, else a fine copy. Paperback.

A San Francisco fine-press production by Adrian Wilson (1923–1988), one of the most admired American book designers of the twentieth century — author of the standard reference The Design of Books (1967) and, in 1983, a recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship. This is early work, printed under his "At the Sign of the Interplayers" imprint, years before he established his permanent press at One Tuscany Alley in 1959. An attractive connoisseur's piece for a collection of California fine printing. The companion volume, Gerstle's Four Ghost Stories (1951) — same author, same printer, same 150-copy limitation — is also available.
