PERLÈS, Alfred.

My Friend Henry Miller.

FIRST EDITION. London: Neville Spearman, 1955.

With a preface by Henry Miller. Octavo. xi, 242 pp. Photographic frontispiece and ten plates. Original blue cloth, gilt lettering to the spine; photo-illustrated dust jacket. Near fine, with three small bumps to the rear board and light bumping to the spine head; in a very good dust jacket, with wear and chipping to the spine ends and corners, a small scrape to the lower spine, and slight fading to the spine.

A signed association copy of Alfred Perlès's affectionate memoir of his long friendship with Henry Miller. Affixed to the front free endpaper is a paper slip bearing the signatures of both Perlès and Miller; above it, in Miller's hand, the inscription "For Bob Young." The recipient's bookplate — "Robert Young, Jr." — is laid down on the front pastedown. The signing format — a slip signed by both men with a Miller inscription above — matches other known copies of this title that Miller and Perlès inscribed together at Big Sur. Copies signed by both Miller and Perlès, with a documented provenance, are uncommon. Shifreen & Jackson B85a.
