The original Pennyroyal edition, printed by Harold McGrath at Moser's press in West Hatfield, Massachusetts, was a 1985 letterpress folio of 350 signed and numbered copies, the wood engravings hand-printed in five colors; this University of California Press trade issue, published the following year, carried Moser's work to a wider readership with the same appreciation by Justin G. Schiller. Moser gives Dorothy's journey a darkly imaginative treatment that departs entirely from W. W. Denslow's familiar first-edition images.
