DE ANGELI, Marguerite.

Jared's Island.

FIRST EDITION, EARLY PRINTING. Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1947.

Octavo. 95 pp. Color frontispiece and illustrations throughout by the author, including a pictorial endpaper map of Barnegat Bay. Tan cloth lettered and decorated in brown, in the color illustrated dust jacket. A near fine copy, lower corners lightly bumped, in a very good-plus dust jacket with wear to the extremities — heavier at the spine ends — and a small chip to the lower front edge.

Inscribed by the author on the dedication leaf, beneath the printed dedication, in ink: "And to — the Adams Family, with thanks for making Yosemite live with us at home — Sincerely, Marguerite de Angeli, 1950." The names "Michael and Anne" are written on the front free endpaper.

Jared's Island is de Angeli's pirate-and-treasure adventure set on the eighteenth-century New Jersey shore: a boy shipwrecked off the coast and taken in by a Quaker family on Barnegat Bay, where he searches for buried treasure.
