Wrong Songs (SIGNED)

TATE, James.

Wrong Songs.

FIRST EDITION, one of 200 numbered copies signed by the author — this No. 97. Cambridge, Massachusetts: Halty Ferguson, 1970.

27, [1] pp. Printed on Fabriano paper in Palatino type, bound in Japanese grasscloth boards with a printed paper spine label; designed and printed at the Ferguson Press, July 1970. The edition was limited to 200 numbered copies, all signed, of which only 150 were offered for sale. Signed by Tate on the limitation page. A near fine copy in the original blue dust jacket, with slight fading to the spine and a short closed tear to the upper front edge.

Wrong Songs belongs to the remarkably prolific early-1970s period that followed: a slim chapbook gathering three poems — "The Distant Orgasm," "Breathing," and "Two-Hundred-and-One" — brief vignettes of grief, pleasure, and presence in the wry, surreal, quietly heartbreaking voice that became Tate's signature.
